The origin of the most prominent organisations of the Third Reich

The Abwehr emerged from the ashes of the Treaty of Versailles, during the Weimar Republic, as the new intelligence service in 1921.

Thus, the SD managed to make its way by applying a previously unknown strategy and practical destroying its rivals, even within the NSDAP.

But where did those who made it possible emerge from?

What were their roles in shaping the new state?

And furthermore, how did a tiny organisation (the SD) seize control of Germany’s most political police force (the Gestapo)?

While the Gestapo was established in Prussia under the protection of Hermann Göring, the SD was strengthened in Bavaria under the umbrella of Heinrich Himmler. Both rivalled and aspired to control all of Germany’s police.

In this essay, you will learn about the manoeuvres and lashes that the SD applied to win the final battle. It is a detailed document that places the reader at the starting point of Europe’s most sinister police network.
